Crown Point
Let’s not bury the lede: the foothills of Santa Barbara aren’t where most expect to find world-class Cabernet Sauvignon — and that’s exactly why Crown Point stands out. Our estate is in the Happy Canyon AVA, on the far eastern edge of Santa Barbara County, where warm days, cool coastal evenings, and a rare east–west mountain orientation create ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties.
In 2013, owner Roger Bower made a defining choice: to focus the estate entirely on Cabernet Sauvignon and its classic blending partners, believing the site could rival the great Cabernet regions of the world while showing a distinctly coastal signature. Today, 35 acres are divided into 28 small vineyard blocks, each farmed with precision and sustainable care. We build healthy soils through biodiversity, rich microbiota, and minimal disturbance, ensuring a lasting bond between vine and land.
Our hillside Cabernet Sauvignon delivers depth, structure, and power, while benchland fruit offers elegance, lift, and fine structure. Cabernet Franc thrives here, adding perfume, spice, and brightness, and marries beautifully with Cabernet Sauvignon in our Estate Selection. Every cluster is hand-harvested and sorted with care. Small-lot fermentations in concrete, stainless steel, and French oak uprights preserve the unique character of each block, while aging in carefully matched French oak barrels shapes fine-grained tannins and preserves coastal freshness.
The Pacific’s moderating influence provides a steadying balance, allowing us to craft wines with richness, harmony, and unmistakable coastal character — wines that reflect this rare place and offer a glimpse into the future of California Cabernet. Crown Point is not Napa in Santa Barbara. It’s something rarer — a benchmark for Coastal Cabernet Sauvignon, born of one site, one vision, and a relentless focus on excellence since 2013.
